Y and Why Not.

One quick question today: How many homeless people could be housed in the YMCA building at Elm and Central Parkway? The Y went out of the room-rental business years ago, yet the main branch remains open for swimming and other activities. There are, a few meters from the door, literally hundreds of homeless people either at the Drop Inn Center or on the surrounding streets. I'm not the first to ask, but people need to keep asking. Why this waste of resources? It is literally cheaper to house homeless people than to continually place them in shelters, or in jails for loitering.

I agree, it is a damn shame.
